India rate cut alone seen unlikely to spur cheaper loans

MUMBAI: A rate cut by the Indian central bank next week will not be enough to spur banks to lower lending rates immediately, bankers said on Monday.

Instead, Indian banks, saddled with high-cost, long-term deposits and narrowing profit margins, are hoping for a cut in the cash reserve ratio, which would boost liquidity and in turn lower the cost of funds, and would allow them to ease deposit and lending rates.

The central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), last cut rates on April 17 by a sharper-than-expected 50 basis points, bringing the repo rate to 8 percent.

But most banks have been unwilling to follow the RBI, minimising the stimulative impact of the policy move as tight liquidity kept the cost of funds high for banks.

High lending rates in Asia's third-largest economy, coupled with rising inflation and sluggish decision-making on reforms, have stunted growth, which fell to a nine-year low of 5.3 percent in the March quarter.

"If CRR is cut our costs of funds will come down immediately so we'll be able to pass on the benefit to our customers," said B.A. Prabhakar, chairman and managing director of state-run Andhra Bank.

"Otherwise we'll have to lower our deposit rates. But in the meanwhile there won't be a lending rate cut," he said.

If the policy interest rate alone is lowered, then a cut in lending rates will be delayed by two to three months, several bank executives said. If a rate cut is accompanied by a CRR cut, the impact would be immediate.

New lending by banks slowed to just 29 percent of fresh deposits at end of May, much weaker than the 70 percent at mid-December, as demand for fresh credit has evaporated although tight liquidity has not allowed banks to lower deposit rates.

The three-month certificate of deposit rate for companies, also known as the wholesale rate, touched a high of 11.50 percent on March 13, and has remained near 9.5-10 percent despite the RBI's steep April rate cut.

5 Blaze players named California League All-Stars

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) ? The California League All-Stars were announced Monday, and five Bakersfield Blaze players have made the team.

The Blaze, who are in first place in the North Division, are tied with the Lake Elsinore Storm and High Desert Mavericks for the most All-Star selections.

The California League All-Stars will play the Carolina League All-Stars on June 19 in Winston-Salem, N.C.

Blaze All-Stars are pitchers Tony Cingrani, Chad Rogers and Brian? Pearl, and infielders Billy Hamilton and Donald Lutz. Hamilton will be a starter, and Cingrani and Lutz won't be active in the game, according to a California League news release.

The Blaze are the High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.

This article is focused upon several home-improvement problems to avoid.

Power equipment is designed with many safety features. A safety guard, found mostly on cutting and grinding power tools, is one such feature. You should never take off the guard just to make something more convenient to use. Due to all the debris, you could end up easily hurting a hand, your face or your eyes. You should also always wear a pair of good safety glasses when working with these tools. Alongside protection glasses, you also want to wear leather gloves. This isnt hard to remember and is basic common sense. Many people end up injured because they choose to ignore these safety aspects. Every time you use a ladder, you are taking a certain amount of risk. Of course, many home improvement jobs require the use of a ladder, so whats a person to do? Ladders should be inspected before you climb up them. Ladders which have been in storage or havent been used for awhile, may have cracks so do a thorough inspection. Extra care should be taken with folding ladders, be sure the ladder is opened to the fullest. Prior to climbing up the ladder, make sure the metal braces, which hold the ladder open, are locked.

When dealing with anything that is electrical, you need to use common sense and safety. Some of the electrical wires in houses can be decades-old so always have your guard up. Over time, expansion and contraction of the metal screws may cause them to loosen allowing for live wires. Some wires may be hot, so you need to test each wire to see if there is electricity running through them. Be wary of insulation that has been exposed to heat or light fixtures for many years as it may be worn out. If there is no longer any protective barrier between you and exposed wires, get this fixed. Electricity does not have to be dangerous to work with as long as you understand what to do.

Safety hazards are innumerable so you need to go beyond this article to be totally prepared. The safest way to work is to not rush and do the job in a moderate fashion. To avoid any type of injury or death, make sure you do not take shortcuts when working on your home improvement project.

Recent releases of Adobe's Premiere Pro have truly added more and more "pro" features to the software, opening up editors' and artists' eyes to the software. With that in mind, Tyler Ginter, professor of our Yellowstone DOP211 course, leads this production-based course which relates his real-world experience working on various jobs in the software. The reality in today's post world is that artists, editors, and other post pros have to work with R3D, Phantom, and DSLR footage all on a single job or even a single timeline. Ginter will be utilizing a variety and footage and formats to show where Premiere Pro excels on the job. The course will also include an honest appraisal of where it falls short and ways in which you can work around these shortcomings.
Ginter has a great perspective, having used Avid and Final Cut Pro in the past, more recently has been using Premiere Pro due to its speed and flexibility in working with various types of footage.

Class 1: Data Management/Organization - Prior to starting your edit you must have a good organizational workflow. As a result, part of being a great editor is also being a great DIT! We will cover how to organize your folders inside and outside of Premiere, additional applications and hardware that will enhance your workflow, and how to setup essential Premiere preferences.

Class 2: Customizing the Interface/Keyboard Shortcuts - We will cover the most essential parts of the interface and how to get around the application and customize it for editing. If you are more familiar with Final Cut or Avid I will try and point out what is the same and what is different. More importantly we will setup custom keyboard shortcuts. From here on we will be dealing a lot more with the keyboard instead of the mouse. Becoming a good editor also means becoming a fast editor and I will share with you my tricks on how to work faster with your keyboard.

Class 3: Model BTS Edit Part 1 - Interview - We will start from a blank project and work through the edit of a real world Behind the Scenes (BTS) model shoot for James Douglas Studio. I will teach you tricks on how to shoot for your edit, interview techniques/questions, how to edit down your interview, and how to developing the story while working through your edit.

Class 4: Model BTS Edit Part 2 - Audio - Audio is often the overlooked and normally done as an afterthought. We will be perfecting our audio from the edited interview and go over tricks on how to improve audio quality in your final edit. We will pick out a music track that fits the pacing and lock down all audio in our edit. Lastly, I will teach you how to get away from annoying audio keyframes using a more reliable and simpler to use technique.

Class 5: Model BTS Edit Part 3 - Timelapse - We will cover the easiest way to process a series of RAW photographs using After Effects and Premiere. Timelapse is great way to enhance your story and it will be a nice B-Roll edition for the Model BTS Edit.

Class 6: Model BTS Edit Part 4 - B-Roll - We will add all of our B-Roll to include the timelapse we processed from the previous week, NAT sound, and photos. We will perfect the flow of the story with visuals that match the interview and music.

Class 7: Model BTS Edit Part 5 - Graphics/Effects/Titles - We will add effects, design an intro, create lower thirds, and add credits. I will demonstrate how to use Dynamic Link to round trip between After Effects and Premiere to create graphics and text.

Class 8: Model BTS Edit Part 6 - Color Correction - We will grade the entire edit and establish an overall look using Colorista II. I will also show how to produce similar results using Premiere's integrated color correction tools.

Class 9: Model BTS Edit Part 7 - Exporting/Project Manager - We will prepare our final edit for our client using Adobe Media Encoder to establish presets batch export several different high resolution and web versions. I will also cover the Project Manager and how to properly backup and archive your entire project for easy access later.

Class 10: Red Workflow/Stabilization/Time Remapping - I will show how to work with native Red Epic footage filmed using SnapRoll Media's Remote Control Helicopter. I will cover how to color correct and edit this footage using the Red R3D Source Settings. Lastly, I will use Adobe Dynamic Link to send the footage to After Effects to use the new warp stabilizer. Once the footage is perfectly smooth I will cover how to use the time remapping tools in Premiere.

DONETSK, Ukraine (AP) - England held on for a 1-1 draw with France on Monday at the European Championship, giving the Group D favorites one point each.

Joleon Lescott put England in the lead with a header in the 30th minute, and Samir Nasri leveled shortly before halftime with a shot into the bottom corner of the net.

Yohan Cabaye and Karim Benzema almost won the match for France with late efforts, but the draw means France has still not won a match at a major tournament since the 2006 World Cup.

France midfielder Alou Diarra and England midfielder James Milner both came close to scoring in the first half.

Samsung Galaxy Note with T-Mobile-ready 3G swings by the FCC (update: demo units?)

A T-Mobile-capable version of the Samsung Galaxy Note has been floating around in pictures, but official evidence has been hard to come by. Imagine our surprise when it saunters by the FCC with few disguises: going under a hinted-at SGH-T879 codename, the giant smartphone has passed through the agency with the needed 1,700MHz HSPA band for T-Mobile 3G while also supporting 850MHz and 1,900MHz 3G in the same breath. The wireless support leaves the possibility that the unit we're seeing here is for 1,700MHz Canadian carriers like Mobilicity or Wind Mobile, but earlier photos of T-Mobile branding and a browser user agent profile allude to the American provider having at least toyed with the idea of a Galaxy Note on its network. Fans of supersized phones have reason to cheer, then, although we have doubts revolving mostly around the T879's absence on a leaked roadmap for mid-2012 and the lateness of the arrival. It might be hard for T-Mobile to steer customers to a 2011-era Samsung phone when the Galaxy S III is on the doorstep.

Update: Some more fuel for the fire: an inventory sheet reportedly leaked to TmoNews has more explicitly made the link between the T879 name and the Galaxy Note along with suggesting that demo units are in the queue. Although we wouldn't count on the rumored July 11th release being solid, there's enough to suggest T-Mobile is serious about getting its first phablet.
